The Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations Extravagant Generosity study group met Saturday, March 6. Here is a list of ideas that the group developed during that meeting.
Extravagant Generosity — Group Meeting Results
1. Improve Congregational awareness of actual giving & Community Outreach Promotion
- Cultivate Giving
- Advertise or Promote What We Do Generously
- Get the word out, i.e. “Need Help call us”
- Use Website to Advertise “How We Can Help”
- Advertise on 4042.com and other local links
- Designated Giving For..
- Promote Awareness/Excitement about giving by showing actual progress
2. Teach Children/ Congregation Values of Giving
- Give the congregation jars “pennies for hunger” or other special offerings
- Promote Sunday School Giving- Use as teaching example for children
- Model by example
- Equate tithe Faith Promise to other Faith Promises
- Teach/Show Children The Value of Giving
- Develop promotion for people to set aside their tithes-jar,cigar box, shoe box, etc.
- Gift of Childbirth -Generosity to others
- Positive Feeling(response) from person you give to
- Can be a lifelong process, you don’t know the outcome
- Giving becomes natural through our Faith Journey
- More joy in giving than receiving
- Develop Rules And Share Rules For Giving (for example):
- Gratitude for gifts
- Developing Confidence in the giving cause
- Accountability for gift use
- Concern of Misuse of Generosity
- Don’t Calculate the outcome of giving
- We are accountable to God for Giving not spending. Not for what they do with it.
- Don’t expect anything in return
- Give to God first, Savings 2nd, then live on the rest
- Stewardship Campaign
- Publish articles on financial management from Dave Ramsey
- Offer adult study on money
- Monthly article in newsletter about giving- tithes, gifts, & offerings
- Writing a will and remembering your church
3. Connect Stewardship to Mission
- Fellowship Luncheon for Seniors
- Review/ Assess Sanctuary Facility improvement
- Youth Outreach into the community
- Complete Community Assessment Survey
- Annual Mission Trip for congregation
- Annual Congregation Retreat
- Use Fellowship Hall for Christian Pre School/ Home School Gatherings
- Offerings for mission work
- Give to another church so they can build their outreach program
